Inverted Normals

April 30 - August 1, 2024

Exhibition Statement

Inverted Normals presented work by students in Digital Fabrication 165, turning Mulberry House Gallery into a focused study of how digital processes become physical form. The exhibition brought together face vessels, sculpted characters, resin dioramas, laser-cut puzzles, and fabricated objects created through modeling, scanning, printing, cutting, and hands-on finishing.

The title points toward the strange productive reversals that happen in digital fabrication. A profile can become a vase, a room can shrink into a resin scene, a hand-drawn image can become an interlocking wooden structure, and a virtual model can return to the world as an object with weight, surface, and scale.

Across the show, students used technology not as a shortcut but as a material process. Their works asked how precision, measurement, scanning, abstraction, and digital repair can still leave room for memory, narrative, humor, and individual intent.
