Ladislav Sutnar - Europe – Culture

16 January – 13 February 2017

Exhibition Statement

This international traveling exhibit opens a debate on the role of culture in the context of relationships, understanding, and tolerance in the European Union. more The travelling exhibition Ladislav Sutnar - Europe - Culture, which is part of a major project called The Return of Ladislav Sutnar, was presented in several venues over the years 2015 and 2016 by the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art and partners. The set of large-size posters is a result of international cooperation among four universities from three countries – the Czech Republic, Poland and the Slovak Republic. Through posters, students of the participating universities pay tribute to Sutnar – typographer, graphic designer, author of posters, theoretician, pedagogue, a man who believed that art and design have the power to transform humanity and make the world better. At the same time, they reflect on the question of cultural values in contemporary Europe. Although the posters were created in 2015, they are still very topical and even gain a whole new dimension in the context of recent developments in Europe and the world. -says Josef Mištera, Dean of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art and one of the leading educators in the project involving four European art schools.
